Facebook Status Experiment

I’ve always wondered how effective my Facebook statuses are. Do people read them? Curious, I conducted this little experiment.

I found out that Justin Bieber, cut his hair. Strangely he got his hair cut just like mine. I figured this was a prime opportunity for my experiment. I posted my status and included a shortened link to a picture of the teen star’s new hair style. Little did people know that I was tracking clicks on the link.  After a mere 6 hours, 5 people liked my status and another 5 commented. That’s does not seem terribly successful.  However, when I checked the stats on the link I posted, I was shocked to find that 67 people clicked the link from my status in just 6 hours. I was astounded.  It shows how many more people actually pay attention to what you post, even if they don’t comment.

You obviously know that someone has read your status if they “Like” or comment on it. Normally just a handful of people interact with your status, but many more read it. You never know how big of an impact your update might really have!
