The “N” Word

I cannot stand hearing the word “no.”  Whenever I hear the word it resonates in my mind as rejection and failure.  It often can cause bitterness.  I am talking about specifically hearing the word in the context of: “No you did not get the job,” “No, you are not yet ready, better luck next time,” “No way I am going to help you with that,” “No, no, no!”

The “N” word hurts.  That is the bottom line.  Many are afraid of  hearing the “n” word because it means that they have failed or fallen short of the mark.  Everybody has been told “no” for one reason or another at some point in their life.  What if we started to take that hurtful word and transform it from a word that makes us feel that we fell short of the mark to a word that motivates us to work harder.

If I have learned something in life, it is that nothing is impossible or too far fetched.  You simply must realize that “no” is a temporary word.  It comes and goes. It means at that given point in time, you did not quite reach a certain level.  When we are told “no” we should not let it bring us down.  We should take it as a challenge.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying to challenge the person that told you “no,” I am saying to challenge yourself.  Challenge yourself to improve, challenge yourself to take your performance to the next level and challenge yourself to go for the million dollar goal.

So next time you are told “no,” take a moment, reflect on what went well and what could have gone better and then step it up and improve the weaker areas so that you can be a million dollar person that will receive the priceless answer, “yes!”
