A few weeks ago, I had an interview for a local TV channel. They asked me, “Do you think that you are successful?” The wheels in my head started turning. For the first time I realized that I hadn’t actually thought about what success looked like for me.
Knowing I had to reply quickly I said, “You set your own success.”
After the interview, I did some serious thinking about the definition of success. Is success making millions of dollars, is it being an internationally recognized, is it being happy or is it all of the above? Reflecting on these questions for a length of time, here is what I came up with…
Success is driven by passion. Passion is driven by vision. Fulfilling your vision is the pathway to your personal success.
Your vision becomes your drive when you set goals. If you are driven, you can easily achieve the goals that fulfill your vision. As a result your passion is fulfilled and you have reached success.
There is not a single definition to success. Like I said in my interview, you define it yourself. There is no benchmark goal other than what you create. Find what you’re passionate about and pursue it. There you will find your success.
For me, I would say that yes, I have reached a level of success, it is not success marked by money or achievements. Instead, it is success in the fact that I have fulfilled many of my goals and I am continuing to pursue my passions.
